The Happiest Design Trend EVER.
October 1, 2024
Time to throw out all the rules! This new design trend lets you do whatever you what and more! Does it feel good? Does it bring you joy? Then lets do it! Time to let your love for everything shine! Here are 10 tips for creating Dopamine decor in your own home.
1. Pick a Starting Point
First, color time! Choose a color you absolutely love. The bolder the better! Got your eye on a blue you absolutely love? Choose it! Next, pick out a focal point. Maybe it's a piece of furniture, or a wall with really good texture, or a piece of artwork. Now build up the room around those items in that color that work well with that color you chose.
2. Choose a Neutral
Dopamine style embraces lots of patterns, colors and prints, but don't forget how important neutrals are too. If it's too loud it'll be harder to find a resting place when you're ready to settle at the end of the day. Try to include neutrals such as pieces of wood furniture, stone, or natural looking furniture, or even lighting to even out the decor.
3. Find your Texture
When it comes to the senses, touch is the second most important sense and just as important to dopamine styling. I mean who doesn't love hand woven rugs, leather or velvet. Find some cool animal rugs or colorful but comfy over sized blankets and layer the room with comfort. Love pillows? I sure do. The more the marrier! Add different velvets, cottons, fabrics and colors to take your neutral furniture to new heights!
4. Create a Gallery Wall
Mix your walls with all different frames and sizes. Mix your favorite framed photos and art work. You can even add cool antique finds like little deer mounts or beautiful mirrors. Styling tip... just make sure the scale to shapes and sizes are paid attention to so it looks right. This is a great place to bring out your personality while also showing a little about you and your family. This can be done in your living room, dining area or up the hallway or by your stairs. Anywhere! Spruce up your entry way too! Have fun with it! You can always change it up throughout the year depending on the seasons or your mood!
5. Wallpaper
Make those walls pop! If you have a laundry room, bathroom or office space you are dying to give life to... this is the perfect excuse. Try some bold designs like animal prints, florals, dots, stripes. Sky is the limit here. Or go a little lighter. There are endless opportunities in the peal and stick (I'm not a pro) category or the good ole fashioned get down and dirty wallpapering. Any way you slice it, you're bringing a lucky little room to life when you embrace wallpaper into your world.
6. Different Prints & Patterns
This style choice allows you to be playful. Mix and match different patterns and prints in different areas. Couches and bedrooms are a great place to do this. Have fun picking out pillows and bedding. You can even do tiles and wallpaper this way. Be playful. Make it exciting and interesting.
7. Consider Shapes & Curves
This cool new style embraces all things, but one common classic dopamine trick is to mix modern clean lines, scalloped edges, antiqued woods, unperfect wavy frames and things that make your eyes dance around the room. It could be furniture, mirrors, art, rugs or lighting. Maybe even cool pottery or candles. There are lots of different playful ways to have fun in your spaces.
8. Sprinkle in Nostalgia
The perfect way to add a little nostalgia is to sprinkle some cool retro appliances in. Find a cool refrigerator, or a colorful toaster or coffee maker. It'll make your kitchen POP! Watch out! It might even trick you into cooking more.
9. Stay Within the Color Wheel
The key is to use colors next to each other on the color wheel so that the use of bold and bright colors still stay sophisticated. Think of blues, purples, pinks and oranges. Sticking within the wheel will keep your vibe of the room on point.
10. Slow your Roll
The design principle of "form follows function" still applies even within the dopamine lines. Make sure your furniture is comfy and that your spaces are still spaces to dwell and that make sense to you and your family. It can't all just be a bunch of eye candy. But who are we kidding... it all is rather fun when you let your imagination loose and take time to dream. Happy decorating.

What Our
Homebuyers Are Saying
“I would recommend Capital Homes to home buyers because of their integrity. They stand behind everything they do from start to finish. The friendships we cultivated throughout the home-building process stands out the most. The staff at Capital Homes are not just “the people” who built our home. They are people we enjoy being affiliated with in the community - our first new friends!”
